Alcohol Free Zones
In November 2008, Narromine Shire Council resolved to implement Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) in Narromine and Trangie for a further period of three years, using the 50km speed signs to determine the area within each town.
The zones were then renewed in 2001, 2014, 2017 and 2020 with the current zones expiring in November 2024.
Since the implementation of the Alcohol Free Zones in 2008, Narromine Shire Council and NSW Police have seen a reduction in the number of complaints relating to broken bottles and irresponsible behaviour.
Narromine Shire Council plans to re-establish the Alcohol-Free Zones in Narromine and Trangie for 4 years commencing November 2024 to November 2028. The Alcohol Free Zone boundaries are based on the 50km speed zones in both towns.
Public submissions can be made by completing the form below or by emailing Council, addressing the General Manager to mail@narromine.nsw.gov.au or posted to PO Box 115, Narromine, NSW, 2821.
Closing date for written submissions is 4:00 pm 25 November 2024.

Narromine Cemetery DRAFT Masterplan
Narromine Cemetery, established in the late 19th century, is an important heritage site for our community, serving as a final resting place for early settlers, Indigenous peoples, and notable local figures. Its historical and cultural significance is recognized through its listing as a heritage item, making it a valuable place of memory and local identity.
To guide future development and ensure the cemetery remains a respectful and well-maintained site, the draft Cemetery Master Plan has been developed. This plan outlines the future layout of the cemetery, including proposed improvements, expansion of the headstone area, and the installation of new toilet facilities. It also sets priorities for the cemetery's growth, ensuring that both its heritage significance and the evolving needs of the community are respected. The implementation of the finalised master plan will occur over many years, as Council has budget and resources.
We invite you to review the draft Master Plan, which is now on public exhibition until 5:00 PM January 15, 2025 - see below and attached

Narromine Industrial Precinct - Craigie Lea Lane
In February 2021, the NSW Government affirmed its support for the Narromine Heavy Industrial Precinct and Freight Exchange by confirming $9 million in funding from the Growing Local Economies Fund. A Planning Proposal has been prepared to change the zoning of land from RU1 Primary Production to E5 Heavy Industrial to support future development of a 29-lot industrial subdivision across 100ha of land at Craigie Lea Lane.
The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure review planning proposals through the gateway process and, if they support them, the proponent may publicly exhibit proposals. The gateway process ensures effort is invested at appropriate stages, that technical information is sufficient, and that our consultation with authorities, government agencies and the community is informed and effective.
The approval to proceed to community consultation from the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure was received following the Gateway Determination. The Narromine Shire Council at the November Council meeting, resolved to advance the Planning Proposal into an Exhibition and Consultation period.
ABOUT THE PROPOSAL
For specific details view the Planning Proposal Documents on Exhibition and the Summary Document, that are supplied below this text.
Local Environmental Plans set out zones for land. Each zone has a land use table that tells landowners, councils and other interested parties what they can and cannot do on a parcel of land. The Narromine Local Environmental Plan 2011 (LEP) does not currently use the E5 Heavy Industrial zone in the LEP.
The inclusion of a new zone and objective specific to the Council strategic vision for the area, will differentiate the existing employment areas within the LGA: ‘To provide opportunities for intermodal freight exchange and related industries’.
Incorporating this additional objective will ensure that any forthcoming developments consider the connection between the Inland Rail, Narwonah Materials Distribution Centre, the road network and the prospective growth of the Narromine Industrial Precinct. This specific zone and objective ensure that the development of the precinct differs and is not in competition with the existing employment precincts and encourages development suitable for its intended purpose. Providing an area for industries to be separated from other land uses. The Planning Proposal as presented aims to guarantee that the future development of the area aligns with and encourages the establishment of value-adding businesses, including agricultural business, in the area that capitalise on the rail and road linkages.
