National Sorry Day is an annual day of commemoration and remembrance of the Indigenous Australians impacted by government policies of forcible removal that resulted in the Stolen Generations.
The first National Sorry Day was held in 1998, one year after the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report. The report was the result of a national inquiry that investigated the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families.
” National Sorry Day is a day of importance, where the community can reflect, consider and appreciate its meaning,” said Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager, Mrs Jane Redden.
Narromine Aboriginal Land Council will conduct a National Sorry Day Acknowledgement event commencing at 11:00 am in Tom Perry Park.
