Narromine Shire Council Committed to Moving Forward with Key Local Government Business

Narromine Shire Council is focused on delivering for the community, with newly elected Mayor Clr Ewen Jones setting his sights firmly on the future. As the Council begins its new term, the priority is on advancing core local government responsibilities and ensuring the achievement of strategic objectives, rather than revisiting issues raised during the recent election campaign.

Mayor Jones emphasised that Council’s efforts will be directed towards fulfilling the key priorities outlined in the Community Strategic Plan, which defines the long-term vision for Narromine Shire. “It’s time to get on with the business of local government – delivering essential services, improving infrastructure, and supporting our community,” he said.

Clr Jones made it clear that Council's focus is on moving forward with real, measurable progress for the Shire, steering away from the past election debate, including discussions on waste-to-energy projects and claims of corruption.

The Mayor rejected the allegations of corruption raised during the election campaign and stressed that Councillors can rely on established processes to ensure compliance with all policies and legislation. “We’ve heard the concerns, and now our goal is to act. We’re committed to open communication, transparency, and keeping the community’s needs at the forefront.”

Mayor Jones further highlighted the strength of the Council’s leadership team, praising their collaborative and accountable approach. “Council has an outstanding leadership team who will continue to focus on the business that directly impacts the everyday lives of residents and businesses,” he said.

In response to concerns from residents, the Mayor reassured the community that there are no plans for a waste-to-energy facility at the Narwonah site. He reaffirmed that Narromine Shire Council will honour its previous decision not to sell land for any such purpose.

Clr Jones concluded, “We’re not looking back; we’re pushing ahead with what matters to Narromine – good governance and getting things done.”

With a clear direction set, Narromine Shire Council will continue to make progress on the issues that truly matter to the community.
