Outstanding citizens recognised at Australia Day Awards 2022

 The outstanding community members of Narromine and Trangie have been honoured this year at the Australia Day Awards held on 26 January 2022.

Narromine’s Australia Day was held in Narromine with a civic event and a Citizenship Ceremony commencing with a BBQ Breakfast at Dundas Park.

Narromine’s Citizen of the Year for 2022 is Mrs Rita Whitbread, a wonderful human being, a tireless and valuable contributor to many community services in Narromine and the founding member of Narromine Sing Australia.

Rita has been actively involved in the Narromine Lions Club for over 15 years and has held many executive positions. Rita is also very occupied with St Augustine’s Narromine Parish Council as volunteer parish secretary. Rita is highly regarded in the local Narromine and wider community.

Celebrations were held in Trangie at the United Services Club hosted by Trangie Action Group.

Trangie’s Citizen of the Year for 2022 is Mrs Trish Clarke, who has volunteered for over 30 years to many service and sporting organisations in the community, including Trangie Ambulance Volunteers Group, Trangie Retirement Organisation, Trangie Tennis Club, Trangie Hospital Committee, Trangie Netball, Trangie Red Cross and Trangie Swimming Club, where she was honoured with a life membership. 

Narromine Shire Council Mayor Clr Craig Davies congratulated all recipients and nominees and highlighted the amazing contributions of so many community-focussed and outstanding citizens in Narromine and Trangie. 

‘The award recipients at Australia Day are an exceptional group of achievers and this is a great way for the community to acknowledge their contribution and a chance for us all to say congratulations and thank you’ said Clr Davies.
