Narromine Shire Council is moving forward with public consultation for the proposed Narromine Industrial Precinct at 397 Craigie Lea Lane. The project involves rezoning 99.65 hectares of land from RU1 Primary Production to E5 Heavy Industrial to support agriculture, transport industries and the Inland Rail project.
Key updates to the proposal include:
Council has met the requirements of the Gateway Determination issued in May 2024, allowing the project to proceed to public consultation.
Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager Mrs Jane Redden explained, “The precinct as proposed will rezone 20% of the total Council-owned land at Craigie Lea to E5 Heavy Industrial, with the remaining area retaining its RU1 Primary Production zoning.
This approach creates opportunities for growth in the agriculture and transport sectors, supporting both existing businesses and new ventures within the Narromine region.
By establishing a dedicated industrial zone just 6km from Narromine township next to the future rail line, industries can operate separately from other land uses, ensuring efficient and sustainable development.”
“Residents and members of the community are encouraged to review the proposal and provide feedback during this consultation period,” said Narromine Shire Council’s Mayor Clr Ewen Jones.
The public exhibition and consultation will run for 60 days until 17 January 2025, with additional consultation with government agencies also occurring.
More details on the consultation and how to provide input will be shared on Council’s website, social media and at Council’s Customer Services and Payments Centre.
