Narromine Shire Council is embracing cutting-edge technology to enhance the way it manages roads, bridges and other public infrastructure. By using drones, laser scanning and 3D modelling, Council is improving asset management, keeping records up to date, reducing costs and ensuring better maintenance and planning of its public assets.
Council’s General Manager, Mrs. Jane Redden, said, “Council is taking a smart approach to managing roads, bridges and other public assets. Like many councils across NSW, keeping infrastructure records up to date and managing inspection costs has been a challenge.”
To address this, Council’s engineering team secured grant funding to trial new technology. With drones and advanced scanning equipment, they can now create highly detailed images and 3D models of structures. This allows for accurate remote assessments, improving maintenance planning while being safer, more efficient and cost-effective.
This forward-thinking project is setting a benchmark for other councils and government agencies across NSW. Recognising Narromine Shire Council’s leadership in this space, Council’s Civil Designer, Hemant Jadhav, has been invited to present at the 2025 NSW IPWEA Conference to showcase the impact of this innovative technology.
“If you see a drone flying over Narromine Shire Council’s assets, rest assured our team is gathering important data to support smarter, long-term infrastructure management,” Mrs. Redden added.
