Council joins Regional Network Leakage Detection Project

Narromine Shire Council is participating in Phase 2 of the Regional Network Leakage Detection Project as part of the NSW Government’s $12.5 million Regional Leakage Reduction Program which has already seen more 2,700 kilometres of water mains surveyed and more than 930 leaks found, saving Councils over billions of litres of lost water this year alone.

NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, Water are working with specialist water network leak detection contractors to undertake on-the-ground surveying and identification of water leaks throughout the Narromine Shire. 

The specialists also use state-of-the-art technology including high-powered listening devices, to pinpoint leaks in pipes, meters and valves, allowing Council to act quickly to fix them.

Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager said. “The program is planned to commence in coming weeks, there is no cost to Council for leak detection works, however the cost of repairs will be borne by Narromine Shire Council. 

The purpose of the program is to promote water conservation and improve the reliability of the water supply, added Mrs Redden.
