Community members will come together to celebrate NAIDOC Day 2019 in Narromine.
NAIDOC Week runs from 7 - 14 July and is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The theme for NAIDOC Week in 2019 is ‘Voice, Treaty, Truth – Let’s work together for a shared future.
A number of community, inter-agency and Aboriginal groups along with local schools and Council have been working together to celebrate NAIDOC Day in Narromine.
NAIDOC Day in Narromine will be held on Monday, 1 July at Dundas Oval in Narromine from 1pm – 5pm to celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders history, culture and future within the Narromine Shire Community.
NAIDOC Committee Spokesperson Crystal Donnelly said “NAIDOC Day is free and open to the whole community.”
“It promises to be a culturally significant and family friendly event and we look forward to seeing community groups and schools in particular coming together to celebrate NAIDOC Day in Narromine,” She said.
Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager, Jane Redden said “There will be a range of inspiring activities for the whole family, so be sure to get involved during NAIDOC day.”
“Council supports the NAIDOC celebrations each year through event support and promotion” she said.
Community NAIDOC Day 2019:
The event is set to be a success, with the support of many services including Narromine Aborginal Education Consultative Group, Narromine Local Aboriginal Land Council, QuitBfit, Creative Community Concepts, Human Services, Mission Australia, NSW Emergency services, Western Women's legal Support, Narromine Community Skills, Live Better, Benevolent, Catholic Care, Breakthru People Solutions.
