Apology Day 2021

Apology Day 2021

National Apology Day will be cancelled in 2021 due to current COVID restrictions forcing a change to the jointly held event.

Narromine Shire Council together with Narromine and Trangie Local Aboriginal Lands Councils (LALC) host an annual event to mark the anniversary of the apology to Australia’s Indigenous peoples by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on 13 February 2008.

Whereby the former Prime Minister apologised for past laws, policies and practices that have impacted Australia’s First Nations Peoples, particularly members of the Stolen Generations.

Many members of the Stolen Generations were present in the Chamber of Parliament House on this day to hear the Apology and many more filled the Great Hall of Parliament House to watch and participate.

Narromine Shire Council General Manager Jane Redden said ’while we are unable to meet for this event in 2021 we recognise it is a significant day in the nation’s history and holds deep meaning for Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.’

Council looks forward to working with Narromine and Trangie LALCs to prepare for future National Apology Days, she added.
